PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF NATURAL GAS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

• Natural gas is odorless and colorless
• Natural gas is primarily methane, with small amounts of other hydro carbons
• Natural gas is non-toxic
• Natural gas is lighter than air, if it escapes, it will rise and dissipate
• Natural gas is clean-burning; when burned with the proper amount of air, it produces heat, carbon dioxide and water vapor.

NATURAL GAS LEAK: The best way to recognize a pipeline leak is by using your eyes, ears and nose!

EYES: Look for persistent bubbling in standing water or discolored vegetation as these are signs of a possible leak around the pipeline area. A slight mist of ice; or unexplained frozen ground near the pipeline area also signs of a possible leak as escaping Natural Gas acts like a refrigerator.

EARS: Listen for any unusual noise like a hissing or roaring sound.

NOSE: You may smell gas – a strange or unusual odor like rotten eggs.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL NATURAL GAS INSIDE YOUR HOME OR BUILDING:

Step 1: Leave immediately on foot! Do NOT use electric switches, telephones (including cell phones), your computer or anything that could cause a spark. That includes your automobile. Take all pets with you!

Step 2: Go directly to a safe location, AND then call Agrinatural Gas' Emergency Number: (1-877-414-1930) and (911).

NEVER assume that someone else has reported the leak !

Step 3: Alert your neighbors. Agrinatural Gas checks “suspected” Natural Gas leaks at no cost to you.

Step 4: Never try to repair a Natural Gas leak yourself. Leave all repairs to a trained technician.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL NATURAL GAS OUTSIDE YOUR HOME OR BUILDING:

Step 1: Leave immediately on foot! Do NOT use electric switches, telephones (including cell phones) or anything that could cause a spark. Move in a crosswind direction away from the leak or vapor cloud and maintain a safe distance.

Step 2: Go directly to a safe location, AND then call Agrinatural Gas' Emergency Number: (1-877-414-1930) and (911).

Step 3: WARN others to stay away from the leak. Abandon any equipment being used in or near the area.
